Detailed Steps in a Co-occurring Resource Inventory
- Green Valley Institute staff meets with the town Conservation Commission interested in carrying out a Co-occurring Resource Inventory. During this meeting, the members of the Conservation Commission:
- Are introduced to the concept of a Co-occurring Resource Inventory.
- Decide on which GIS data sets will be included in the Inventory.
- Decide how much influence each GIS data set will have on the Inventory (doing this is optional, and some Commissions in past Inventories have decided that all GIS data sets should have equal influence).
- Based on the decisions made by the Conservation Commission, input GIS data sets are compiled and arranged in a computer-based model, and an output Co-occurring Resources Inventory GIS data set is generated. This output data set is then included on a rough-draft map and printed.
- The Green Valley Institute staff re-convenes with the Conservation Commission. At this meeting, the Co-occurring Resource Inventory rough-draft map is introduced to the members of the Commission, who then decide what changes should be implemented (these decisions may include the inclusion or omission of certain GIS data sets and/or changes in how much influence the individual data sets have on the Inventory).
- Step 2 is repeated, this time implementing the updated recommendations from the Conservation Commission.
- Once again, the Green Valley Institute staff re-convenes with the Conservation Commission: the updated map is introduced, and Commission members can now decide if the results of the Co-occurring Resource Inventory are to their liking, or if further changes are needed (steps 2 and 3 are repeated if necessary: this process is rarely repeated more than twice).
- Once the members of the Conservation Commission agree that the parameters of the Co-occurring Resource Inventory are to their liking, the Conservation Commission is given the final version of the Co-occurring Resource Inventory map, which can then be added to the existing Community Resource Inventory map set.
